Day 32: Super Bowl Sunday

Day 32: Super Bowl Sunday

I sojourned to Saltillo for the weekend to visit, and shortly after the big game’s coin toss, the cable on my parents’ nice big huge enormous HD TV froze up, and then kicked out completely. I had the bright idea to try and stream the game on my laptop, but my synapses finally fired and reminded me that no cable = no internet. So we busted out the board games and entertained ourselves. Which is fine and all, but it left me with eight useless sets of 3-D glasses. Yes, I kept one for later. What am I, a barbarian?

Anyway, when we realized that the cable blackout was area-wide, Hardin County’s amateur conspiracy theorists let loose with their explanations. My favorite is that it was terrorists, but apparently the one theory that people seem to be taking as fact is that some vigilante was getting back at Charter Cable for giving channels four and five (the Nashville news channels) the ax a few weeks back. I’m told that the cable that runs beneath the big Harrison-McGarity Bridge was cut clean.

I don’t believe it for a second but it amuses me to no end to think that one little cable could be cut and bring the entire county to its football-loving knees.
