[The only girl I’ve ever loved was born with roses in her eyes] How did I miss that Susan Sontag died? I know the tsunamis engulfed much of the news coverage of the past two weeks, but how did I manage to see a story about Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston breaking up before I read that Susan Sontag passed … two weeks ago? It was Salon that informed me. I finally renewed my subscription…
[Monday musings] But didn’t I mention? The ongoing wow is happening right now. We are all co-authors of this dancing exuberance, for even our inabilities are having a roast. We are the authors of ourselves, co-authoring a gigantic Dostoevsky novel starring clowns. This entire thing we’re involved with called the world is an opportunity to exhibit how exciting alienation can be. Life is a matter of a miracle that is collected over time by moments…
[What does this button do?] Kristin’s yard sale suggestion should not go unheeded. She originally suggested it to fund Gonzo’s surgery, but he has since been given a fairly clean bill of health (bow to the fishy fat oil!). It doesn’t matter, though. We have plenty of crap to get rid of, and we could really use whatever money could be squeezed from it. And I’m sure K&J have things they’d like to give the…
Now finish up them taters; I’m gonna go fondle my sweaters
Last night was pretty harsh. I’ve only been out of bed for about an hour. I ended up looking pretty haggard by the time 4:15 rolled around and they let us leave. Awake at 7, at work at 10, a three-hour break during which I couldn’t sleep, then nine hours spent holding a heavy scan gun above my head. They gave us one 15-minute break the whole night. And we actually got done scanning things…
[Nothing much to think and nothing much to say] Groan. Not looking forward to today. We’ve got inventory. I’m scheduled for 9:50 a.m.-4 p.m., then I have to come back at 7 p.m. and work until 4 a.m. tomorrow. At least I have the rest of tomorrow off when I’ll come staggering out the door at 4 a.m.
[God is a concept by which we measure our pain] Someone posted a comment the other day to my entry about the tsunami. They said, basically, that the disaster was a bitch-slap to the Muslims (“idolators”) administered by a particularly moody God. I’m sure this theory has been broadcast from the pulpits since the destruction occurred. What’s bad is that I can’t exactly argue with it, since I’m not in God’s inner circle and I…
[Clock’s ticking] In just a few days I’ve already sold three books on Half.com, which really surprises me for some reason. I wonder if I’m lowballing everyone else. I would sell off a few more books if I thought I could actually get a decent amount for them. But selling a book for $2 and then paying $2.10 to ship it is, I believe, bad business. Phil is hooked on Ratchet and Clank. It doesn’t…
[The Earth looks better from a star] What’s with the weather? Is it cold outside? Overcast but hot? Raining iridescent fiery brimstone? I can’t tell just from looking out the window anymore.
[It’s on] I got the call today, so I’m definitely moving to Memphis. In fact, my start date is set for Jan. 31. I am, of course, ridiculously excited, but I’m also really scared, since now I have to start planning this move in a realistic, feasible way. Before, I was just thinking of it in a “hmmm-wouldn’t-this-be-nice” way, bookmarking apartments that were probably way above my range of affordability. This change in my life…
