Shorter Globe and Mail column: Who cares if you don’t want to do it; STFU and spread ’em to hang onto your asshole boyfriend/husband.
Those poor dudes, having to endure that constant need to pork things.
What’s so hilarious (and by hilarious I mean, of course, sad) is this quote by some pseudonymous dude:
“If men don’t feel respected or loved, if they don’t feel like a man, if they have to walk around on eggshells when it comes to their sex drive, if their horniness is treated like an inconsiderate act of selfishness – like typical male behaviour – then they will reassert themselves with another woman.”
And several paragraphs later, the columnist writing this garbage says this:
Most young mothers will tell you that after having their bodies taken over by pregnancy, and then the demands of breastfeeding and constant monitoring of a baby, what they would really like at night is to be left alone for a bit, untouched. They’ve overdosed on closeness for the time being.
But husbands still want their wives to view them as the primary relationship.
Got that? You shouldn’t treat an inconsiderate act of selfishness — the act of hounding someone who does not want sex for sex — as exactly what it is: An inconsiderate act of selfishness. Because, you know, it hurts dudes’ feelings and emasculates them.
Unbelievable. Completely predictable.
Be a lady in public and a whore in the bedroom.
Seriously? This was written recently? What a load of garbage.
And if I were a man (Thank God I’m not), I’d be insulted at the insinuation in this colum that men have no capacity to control their sexual urges and have no idea how to masturbate. They should also be insulted that this person doesn’t think that at least some of them get married because they love a woman and want to build a home and possibly a family.
She also seems to imply that men choose their women. Ha!
In seven states you can still sue your husband/wife for not putting out. Judges call it “alienation of affection.”
Being impotent is enough to get your marriage annulled.
True, husbands (or boyfriends, or anyone else) don’t have the right to force sex upon their significant other. But you only live once – many (wo)men who can’t get it at home will get it somewhere else.
And Lesley – yes, there are many, many ways in our modern world to conceive a baby or “build a family.” But the oldest – and the most popular – is the ol’ fashioned bump ‘n’ grind.
I realize Ms. Hampson’s essay doesn’t exactly stick to the feminist script – but she’s right.
I think it speaks to the debase nature of men, that they’re controlled merely by their sexual urges. Like essentially, you’re saying that men are nothing more than their penises. Or that’s what it sounds like Cox is saying.
Granted, the characterization of both sexes in the article was overly simplistic. Frankly, I found the generalizations about women much more offensive
That said, who here can honestly say that sex isn’t an essential component of a healthy relationship?
The dumb characterizations aside, I read it as this: Sexual urges are natural and healthy – not something to be ashamed of.
If we accept this logic, then it could be argued that NEVER having sexual urges is unnatural and unhealthy. Perhaps the person NEVER or RARELY having sexual urges should be the ones examining why they don’t have these urges, rather than criticizing the man/woman who is experiencing the feelings they are biologically supposed to feel in a romantic relationship.
I say man/woman because I honestly think the basic argument (sex is essential for a healthy relationship) cuts both ways.
Ah well. At least the Europeans would agree with me.
I understand your logic better. That said, I started getting into the 9/11 conspiracy theories. Whenever I see you again, we will have to talk about that shit…after we smoke a bowl.
Did’ya know that Matthew Hurtt writes for the DNJ now? I wasted the past half-hour reading mental excrement such as this:
http://www.dnj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070606/OPINION02/706060308/1014/OPINION
That DNJ. Ever since they were raised from the proveribal muck from the Gannett Corporation, they’ve always been on the forefront of elevating political discourse.
Well, I started to comment but it got too long. So I’m making a new post! Whee!
It takes balls to be a woman. Love that Elizabeth Cook.
