So, I’m still blog-breaking, but I just had to write something today, of all days, because it’s a big effing deal.
You spend 11 hours at work, slinging election pages, updating numbers and charts and articles until 2 a.m., and you have a very superficial and vague understanding of what’s actually happening — it’s a hopeful understanding, based on sheer numbers — but your focus isn’t on digesting the information, it’s on getting the shit on the page and to your editors and to the press. And then when you come home at 3 and crash and wake up at 12:30 and turn on the news and see that Rumsfeld has resigned and the Dems are on the verge of taking the Senate, or at the very least, splitting the damn thing (which is the Best News Ever for Lieberman, incidentally), you actually cry with relief that something is happening.
And then you get in the shower and go back to work. And prepare yourself for another hectic night.
Gotta love the news business, even if it’s crashing and burning.
I’m so happy to be alive. It’s a wonderful day. As I told a friend, “A new nation has been born. We have crawled out of Lady Liberty’s vagina, all withered and worn after being stabbed repeatedly in the cooch for the past six years.” It’s a marvelous day.
Boo blog breaks!
