I just finished watching the series finale of Six Feet Under<\/i>. Jesus. How does HBO do it? So many good shows. So much good writing. I mean, I’d read the recap at TWOP<\/a> long ago, when it first aired. And I’d seen a YouTube clip of the closing sequence. So I knew what was coming. But, man, that show can make me blubber like a fucking infant. It’s ridiculous. The whole idea of moving away from the family \u2014 impossibly far away \u2014 chokes me up because it’s something I wrestle with every day. How much distance can we tolerate? We are adaptable people, but our souls sour.<\/p>\n

Anyway, what a great show. <\/p>\n

That final sequence, with its breathy companion song sung by Sia Furler, got me to thinkin’ about how much I sure would like Regina Spektor’s new album for Christmas. Elves, are you listening? And while you’re at it, could you get me some new wine glasses? I broke yet another one today, which means I’m down to two. Which just won’t do.<\/p>\n

I get to go get my car tomorrow, so I’m super excited about that. I suppose once I sit down in it, a whirlwind of last-minute Christmas preparation will begin. I’ve got to finish up my shopping, of course. But I’m also thinking I should get to the grocery store to prepare a weekend survival kit for when I go to my parents’. See, these past couple of months I’ve overhauled my food intake \u2014 to surprisingly positive results \u2014 and if I’m going to be hanging at the ‘rents’ for three days, I’m going to need some wheat bread and Kashi granola bars, you know? And a fruit platter. Mmmm, fruit platter. Otherwise it’s all meat and beans and banana pudding. And that doesn’t even sit well mentally. <\/p>\n

I’m looking forward to the holiday. I can’t wait to see what Phil got me (he always gets the best presents) and I can’t wait to unload all this swag onto its rightful owners. It’s bizarre that Christmas is here already, and that 2007 will be lumbering up and plopping down in my lap in a couple of weeks. <\/p>\n
