Recently my aunt commissioned me to create change-of-address postcards for her and her boyfriend. They had purchased new construction, a house that no one had ever lived in before, so I thought it would be fun to draw a portrait of the house itself to include on the cards since it was making its debut in the world.
I had my aunt send me photos of the house as it was in progress so I could get started. She followed up several weeks later with pictures of the garage door after it had been hung, as well as the exterior lighting, so I could add those finishing touches.
Here’s a pic of the real house vs. the finished drawing.
I drew the house in Illustrator with a mouse, using basic shapes and a brick pattern. It was so much fun! I’m probably going to draw a portrait of our own house, and then offer portrait drawings in the Etsy shop at some point.
