Day 107/365: Monroe Avenue

There is a run-down stretch of Monroe between Marshall and Lauderdale, over by Kudzu’s, that is crammed full of colors and textures that are crumbling and fading due to neglect. This is Memphis, so some day, all of that will meet with a bulldozer. Too bad, because a lot of the architectural detail over there is really interesting, and full of history to boot. Day 100/365: Play Ball!

At long last, baseball season is here. Thanks to Jen, I got to get comfy in the work suite and watch one of the first games of the season among a dozen other fans. (Seriously, Memphis, what gives? Go see these games.) The game was uneventful and we lost, but there is nothing finer than the whistle of the wind and the crack of a bat and the oof of an error in a ballpark…

The Dixon has 100,000 bulbs blooming right now — mostly tulips but some daffodils and other stuff too. It’s pretty incredible. Seeing all the variations is stunning. Get out there and see them while they last. I reckon they’ve got a couple of weeks left in them.               [Project 365]

Day 76/365: Traaaaaaaaain

I took a stroll around the area just south of my ‘hood to see what I could see. Crossed the tracks and noodled around in the area by that New Olivet Baptist Church-tagged building that is not the actual church. Spent a little too much time trying to decide if “Are you living holy?” would be improved by being phrased, “Are you living holily?” I don’t get out much.   [Project 365]
