Day 101: On the Road Again and Again and Again

I’ll cop to it — I didn’t get any decent pictures of the Conchords OR Kristen Schaal, who opened for them (squee!), not only because I was too chickenshit to challenge Grandpa McUsher, who was roaming the rows and threatening to cut people with cameras, but mostly because I can’t take pictures in the dark. I just can’t. Plus I was excited. Whatever — I don’t live my WHOLE life through a screen! Anyway. The…
A few weeks ago, my dad’s heart doctor suspected that Dad had had a heart attack some time recently. So he sent him to Memphis for a battery of tests. I hoofed it out east yesterday to sit with my parents in the waiting room in between the tests. The people at the Stern Cardio clinic were ridiculously nice to us. I watched my dad come and go from the waiting room while wearing a…
I want to I want to be someone else or I’ll explode Floating upon this surface for the birds The birds The birds You want me? Fucking well come and find me I’ll be waiting “Talk Show Host” — Radiohead [Project 365]
I had a little time to spare on the trip back to Memphis today, so I took a detour up to Brownsville to check out Billy Tripp’s Mindfield, which I’d heard about from FearlessVK first, and then subsequently from other people saying how cool it was. And indeed, it’s a pretty bizarre, quirky, amazing thing to behold. It’s a little like looking at a three-dimensional version of one of those surreal drawings in the Scrutineyes…
Sometimes if you play your cards right, you can watch a game of kickball, find a four-leaf clover, eat a buffalo burger, piss off bumblebees, eat s’mores, drink rum and cranberry/pomegranate juice, and watch The Warriors with your friends in the same night. I guess that doesn’t have a whole lot to do with this picture, but then again it kind of has everything to do with everything. Pro Tip: Hot-ass Michael Beck (who played…
Saturday I journeyed to Nashville to wish Megan and Ian well in their marriage. I had a good time catching up with them and my other ladyfriends and their ladyfriendhusbandfolks. I got so busy catching up (read: gossiping) that I didn’t really take any good pictures (this one would have been good had I decided to focus on Megan and not the godforsaken wall). As always, there just aren’t enough hours in the day to…
Tried to file some Very Important Paperwork today, but it completely completely slipped my mind that city offices would be closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr.’s death day. So, next week. Last night Cameron Harper tweeted a link to the collection of LIFE Magazine photographs from the King murder scene that have just been released to the public for the first time. I clicked through them slowly and felt my breath leave my…
My pal Tamara was ever so kind enough to help me come up with a concept for today’s photo. I was all TELL ME WHAT TO PHOTOGRAPH PLEASE I AM OUT OF IDEAS. And she was all HANG ON I WILL SAVE YOUR ASS. And she said “April showers” and I took it literally and voila — one more day of this project in the can. Heh. Can. Get it? Shower? Bathroom? Can? Bathroom? Can?…
Busy busy busy busy day. No time to take a photo until very late, after work. Three weeks, people. Spread the word. [Project 365]
