TCB

The turnout at the Elvis vigil was pretty abysmal this year. There was a decent number of people walking the tribute line, but when we got there after midnight, there were just three or four shrines left, and that was it. The rain surely knocked a lot of people out of coming or, if they did come, sticking around very long. But that shower sure did clear the way for some nice outdoor boozin’ weather…

In which I enjoy preparing food until The Universe reminds me that I have no business doing so

SS visited this weekend, and, hoping to counteract the heaping amounts of awfulness we ingested at IHOP (or, I-Poh those of us who may be dyslexic), we went to the grocery story Sunday night to stock up on semi- to mostly healthy things to make for dinner. We settled on the ingredients for some grilled chicken wraps and I decided that I wanted to try to recreate the roasted grapes I had at Lesley’s house…

Connectivity

Old and busted: Sitting in my parents’ office in the squeaky desk chair, craning my neck upward to look at the monitor, cussing heartily at the plodding pace of their ancient Dell. The new hotness: Doing my nightly websurfing ritual sitting cross-legged on their couch with a laptop warming my crotch and a sleeping Daschund next to me. I made a whirlwind trip to Murfreesboro yesterday to celebrate an old friend’s emancipation from the ‘Boro…

Hitched

This weekend I got to witness two fabulous people get hitched in style as the sun set over sleepy Decatur County, Tenn. (site of the last wedding I went to, oddly enough; apparently Parsons/Decaturville is right up there with cinnamon rolls and oysters as an effective aphrodisiac). It was classy and sweet and funny and genuine and all sorts of nice things that made me feel pretty silly for being so (supposedly) unsentimental. I loved…

Surreality, cont’d

I notice that BetteDavisLies over at Complacencies of the Peignoir has a post up about strange encounters of late. (If you’re not already reading this blog, may I politely insist that you do so immediately? It’s good stuff.) I have an incomplete and unoriginal theory about the strangeness that periodically seeps through the linen-wrapped Southern spring and summer days: It’s all about the heat. We all go a little more nuts the higher the mercury…

The morning-after pill

I saw the sun rise this morning and not on purpose. It just kind of happened when I neglected to go to bed last night and instead sat out on my balcony with Sarah and Rebecca, eating brie and blabbing about who knows what, and thinking a little too hard about the stuff I always think too hard about, which means I woke up kind of sad this morning and have spent most of the…

I think this qualifies as meta

Behold! Video in which B.Dill talks on the phone — from my apartment in Memphis — with his friends in New York who are (er, were) doing a live streaming webcast art project in which they held various conversations for 24 hours. Extremely meta from Lindsey Turner on Vimeo. Whoa.

A new toy!

Well, just a new feature I found on a toy I’ve had for a month now. I was at my friend Ay’s house the other night — you might remember her as my samesexheterodate from a couple of weeks back (let’s just say we hit if off so well we skipped from first base to sliding into third by getting shooed out of the P&H for heckling open-mic comedians) — when she showed me the…

Things of varying levels of randomosity

• I saw Run Fatboy Run* last night with Courtney. It was funny and oh so very corny — man, the symphony was swelling on the soundtrack — with its storyline about a sad sack dude who shirks his duty as a soon-to-be husband and father by leaving his pregnant bride at the altar, and then five years later decides to win her back by running a marathon. That’s a pretty idiotic premise, and I…

Lukesitting

Auntie Rebecca and I got to spend several hours with Luke yesterday while Ashley and JD went downtown for a bit of an anniversary celebration (happy five years, y’all!). We halfway expected to be wading in poop and spit-up by the end of the day — and were even warned to bring an extra shirt just in case — but I swear, that kid (once he woke up and got over his initial where-are-my-parents-and-who-are-you-weird-looking-brunettes? hissy…
