Day 334 — Christmas Lights
[for Friday, Nov. 30] Project 365
[for Tuesday, Nov. 27] My jewelry collection still proudly includes items I got when I was in second grade (the turquoise Mardi Gras beads), a necklace my father wore when he was a kid (the leather-and-chunky-beads ensemble), love beads my mom wore in the ’70s (the pink and light green beads), and damn near every seed bead I’ve ever bought at Wal-Mart. Obviously I’m not a big fan of “real” jewelry. Project 365
[for Friday, Nov. 23] It is my contention that Vildo is one of the most unfortunately named towns in Tennessee. Project 365
[for Thursday, Nov. 22] Every year, it’s different. Last year, we nearly burned the kitchen down with fiery turkey grease. This year, both my parents were sick. My mom hobbled around in her pajamas, barely stomaching the rich and ripe smells of a dozen different dishes mingling. She was a good sport, and ate a bit of turkey and fixins. Last time I’ll call him “Peanut,” I swear! What a sweet baby. So pretty. And I don’t say that flippantly; some babies are rather unfortunate looking. But little Lucas — weighing in at a robust 8 pounds, 11 ounces — is a looker. Even when he’s blowing spit bubbles. I’m so happy for Ashley and JD. They are going to make seriously great parents. [for Tuesday, Nov. 20] Just got back from the grocery. Picked up lots of salad ingredients and fruit and cheese (note: nothing cookable) to take to the parents’ Thursday. Sometimes I wonder if my mother feels like a failure for raising a daughter who can’t cook for shit. Well, she shouldn’t. That’s all on me. I hope my mom will be okay. She’s been fighting a stomach virus of some sort for four days now.…
