2009 1/2

So the year is basically half over. Huh. Today as I was driving back to Memphis from my parents’ house, I thought about all the shit that’s happened this year and what I’ve learned and blah blah false adult lessons hooey. Just now I started writing about this fucking mess of a year so far, when I realized that that’s pretty much all I’ve written about for months now. This post in particular is probably…

My youth, topographically speaking

So Randal has a post up about memory-mapping, which is a concept I just love because I am constantly trying to grab onto ways to bank my memories before my brain kicks them out or muddies them too much, so and I have jumped on board with all my baggage and made my own memory map. It’s just such a lovely little concept, I think, to find yourself combing over topography and allowing specific memories…

Day 103: Make Your Own Luck

I was walking in my parents’ yard Monday afternoon and just happened to see a four-leaf clover. I don’t know how. I just saw it. I kneeled down and plucked it, and then spotted a ladybug perched on a blade of grass. And then saw another four-leaf clover right beside it. I left that one for someone else to find. My favorite bit of the inaugural address

I especially enjoyed this measured response over at The Root, which deems Obama’s speech “a sacred effort.” My favorite bit of…

Hola, y’all

So I survived the week. So far. I’m at Kristin’s, mooching the wireless and watching the Food Network. And trying to catch up on some internetty things I might have missed this week. Uploading pictures, etc. I see that the English-only bullshit in Nashville looks doomed. GOOD. Sheesh. I’ve got so much to say about the things I have seen this week. So much. But it will take some time for me to get my…

A life more or less ordinary

Laundry Day. A poorly planned one, at that, since my quarter count came up two short of what I’d need to wash and dry two full loads. But some creative searching in pants pockets and jewelry boxes and I had discovered not two but three quarters (one of which has a perfectly circular love-bead-sized hole in it; I’ve been hanging on to that thing for as long as I can remember and have been known…

Day 2: EAT RKS EE CO.

For Christmas, my friend Ashley gave me several bottles of flavored syrup for my coffee. I tried the caramel today. It was the shit. So I got hopped upon caffeine and took pictures of the bottles. 2009 sure is looking promising in the excitement department! Actually, Ashley gave me those socks in yesterday’s picture, too. Here’s to Ashley for making my P365 possible so far! [Project 365]
