Day 80: C-T

smooch

Saturday Matt and Kerry got hitched Memphis-style at Ernestine & Hazel’s, and I tell you what, I have never seen the place looking classier or bumping more earnestly with the hilarious dancing of mostly not-very-rhythmic folks*. Good times, good times.

Zach said some really nice things at the ceremony about friends being your chosen family, and it’s just so true and so right that there’s not much to add to it. He was clearly feeling the love, as evidenced by his fist-clenching euphoria above.

I feel so lucky to not only have the friends that I have, but extremely lucky that they are the kind of people who don’t have lame weddings. I’m three for three so far in the Friends’ Weddings Not Sucking Department. To whichever couple is next to take the leap off the plank, the bar is high. Please cinch up your britches and jump accordingly.

Granted, you may not be able to top having your wedding at a place where your guests can go upstairs during the reception and hear tales of pimps and prostitutes and craziness past from the owner/manager herself, but don’t let that discourage you.

Bonus: I got to meet Laura Conaway, the awesome lady behind the audio slideshow I did for NPR’s Bryant Project back in 2007 about my Project 365. (She’s now with Planet Money.) Extra bonus: She brought Sarah Goodyear along with her, and Sarah and JR got to geek out about urban planning.

Cheers, kids. Have a long and happy union!

* I said mostly! There were some professional rug-cutters present, of course.

  1. One day, I will tell people that I went to a wedding at a converted brothel and discussed the need for transit-oriented development. And ate a Soul Burger.
