Day 35: Waiting Room

Day 35: Waiting Room

I’m stubborn, but not stubborn enough to continue ignoring this mucus mutiny that is happening inside me. Usually I can let a sinus infection pass without interfering, but this one doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Sunday I thought I was on the mend but then Monday I sat here and felt my throat grow swollen and sore, and then this morning I woke up and could barely turn my head because my lymph nodes are so swollen. Sexy!

Luckily my doctor’s office had an opening (a lot of them, based on the look of the photo up there; to be fair, it did fill up shortly after I took that picture) so I went in, got the official sinus infection diagnosis, and requested that they give me the sinus cocktail I hear such great things about. I just want to be clear here: I don’t give blood because I have a robust aversion to needles. So me asking for a shot is kind of a big deal. And that bastard, shoved right in my hip, burned like a bitch! But it was worth it. For like three hours, I was focused and feeling completely congenial and pleasant. Weird.

I didn’t pay a cent for the office visit or the medication, and my nurse practitioner sent me to Schnucks to fill a prescription for antibiotics because Schnucks has a deal running right now for free antibiotics, which is so awesome I thought for a second I was in Canada. I am more or less completely clueless about how my insurance works, so I’m suspicious about not having to pay anything, not even a co-pay. I’m betting I’ll get a big fat bill in the mail or something. This is America: Getting sick is a major investment.

Here’s hoping whatever chemicals are now pumping through my veins will ease the pressure in my head enough so that my face does not explode tomorrow on the plane to North Carolina.

HOLY CRAP, I NEED TO PACK.
