This video is as lousy as it is brilliant

In preparation for some upcoming web projects I’ll be doing for work, I’ve been asked to teach myself how to shoot and edit video. Considering I am the world’s worst teacher AND the world’s worst student, this has been no small feat.

I began my torrid romance with iMovie a scant eight hours ago, and this piddly nugget of pointlessness is all I have to show for it.

This video is as lousy as it is brilliant from Lindsey Turner on Vimeo.

It’s cobbled together from old video scraps and some stuff I shot the other day with the Flip camera I borrowed from work, which helps to explain why it’s so, uh, random.

No cat clips, can you believe it?

Anyway, I think I exported it at the wrong size, because it looks kinda wonky and the text has got some weird compression issues. I might go back and re-export or I might not.

This endeavor has exhausted me. I’m going to bed.

Tomorrow is election day and OH HOW EXCITED I AM. For democracy! For vote totals and percentages of precincts reporting! For smarmy acceptance speeches and weeping spouses in the background!

Just kidding. I hate election day.

  1. LT,

More the latter than former I think. Which reminds me, did you come across iMovie legally or through back-channels? I am attempting to find a video editor but am having trouble finding something that suits the n00b and is also free.

  2. TV, I love that kid. He opened for Regina Spektor — his lovah — and bantered with his iPod. Good times.

P, thanks! I got the iLife suite on the new laptop, so I paid for that shiz. I’d say it’s pretty noob friendly, but then again, I have nothing to compare it to…

  3. My buddy Joey and I are doing a web show, or Wow (pronounced whoa) and I’m trying jumpcut but I’m not totally sure that you can save your videos for uploading to youtube. I wonder how one might go about acquiring iMovie without the additional purchase of the iMactop. Hmmm.
